Last Sunday, our first day in town, we were able to freely
explore Sacramento. Although it was only a thirty-minute walk to the Crocker
Museum, Asiel and I managed to take two hours to get there. As we were walking
under the bridge to get to Old Town, we noticed a new piece of art every corner.
One of my favorite shops in Old Town was a candy store where you could try
anything with a blue label (there chicken and waffle taffy was delicious)!
Although it was closed due to Easter, our next adventure took us to the Old
Sacramento Schoolhouse Museum. When we peeked inside, we noticed how different
the classroom was compared to today’s typically educational environment. After
getting lost for a little bit, we finally found ourselves at the Crocker
Museum! Although Dr. Eskandari’s most recommended painting by Franz Dietrich of
Oedipus and Antigone was fascinating,
my favorite was Still Life With Flowers
in a Glass Bowl. In this 17th century painting, Jan Davidsz de
Heem painted flowers, which would not be seen in nature together, all blooming
at once. These flowers serve as a reminder of beauty and life.
